Garden-to-table, Coron style

El Comidor is our open-air restaurant at the heart of the garden — a big wooden pavilion with wide windows, ceiling fans and a view over the pool.

Long-time guests know us for hot, generous plates of Filipino home cooking: sinigang, adobo, kinilaw made with the morning's catch, grilled yellowfin and whole fish from Coron's fish port. For those missing home, there are pastas, sandwiches, salads and all-day breakfast.

  • Calauit Safari Park — giraffes and zebras on a Palawan island. A full-day trip with a 4 AM start (we'll pack breakfast).
  • Culion Island — a moving museum and heritage town, once the world's largest leper colony, an hour by boat.

We're looking for dedicated, hands-on people to help us prepare Sophia's Garden Resort for re-opening. All roles are full-time and based on-site in Coron, Palawan.

Kitchen

Head Chef / Kitchen Lead

Role Overview: Lead culinary operations for a Pan-Asian concept in a 40-seat coastal dining pavilion. You will command daily kitchen service, spearhead menu development, mentor kitchen personnel, and establish robust operational systems for inventory management, food costing, and a positive team culture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Help design and develop creative menus celebrating local seafood and signature dishes while establishing kitchen operational systems.
  • Direct daily line prep, ticket execution, and station management across high-heat commercial wok ranges and steamers.
  • Establish and maintain tight inventory management control, track daily yields, and monitor food costing to consistently achieve target margins (sub-30%).
  • Train, coach, and mentor kitchen staff while fostering a supportive, positive team culture and enforcing strict HACCP food safety standards.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of kitchen leadership experience (Head Chef, Chef de Cuisine, or Senior Sous Chef).
  • Proven track record in menu development, staff training, and team culture building.
  • Solid experience in inventory systems, food cost monitoring, commercial wok cooking, and fresh seafood fabrication.
  • Full-time on-site relocation to Coron.

HR & Administrative Officer

Role Overview: Oversee comprehensive people operations, talent acquisition, employee onboarding, bi-monthly payroll/timekeeping, statutory labor compliance, and overall administrative support across resort operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Talent Acquisition & Onboarding: Manage end-to-end local hiring, candidate screening, interviews, contract execution, and pre-employment onboarding.
  • Timekeeping & Payroll: Audit biometric logs, leaves, shifts, and overtime calculations to prepare accurate bi-monthly payroll summaries.
  • Labor Compliance & Benefits: Maintain 201 employee files and ensure compliance with DOLE regulations, SSS, PhilHealth, and Pag-IBIG statutory contributions.
  • General Administration: Coordinate staff housing assignments, duty meals, employee welfare, office supplies, and municipal permit renewals.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of HR and administrative experience, preferably in hospitality or service industries.
  • Strong working knowledge of Philippine Labor Code, DOLE guidelines, and government statutory benefits.
  • Based in or willing to relocate to Coron.

Maintenance Technician

Role Overview: Maintain the physical condition, mechanical systems, and utility infrastructure of the 22-room resort property to ensure smooth daily operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine preventive checks and immediate repairs on plumbing, water lines, drainage, and electrical fixtures across guest rooms and common areas.
  • Monitor and service property mechanical assets, including backup power generators, water pumps, commercial laundry machines, and on-site utility vehicles.
  • Handle general carpentry, locksets, masonry touch-ups, hardware maintenance, and exterior wood refinishing.
  • Assist with pool water balance, filtration upkeep, and pier fixture maintenance.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in general building maintenance, resort facilities, or trade work (electrical, plumbing, or AC servicing).
  • TESDA NC II certification in relevant trades is an advantage.
  • Practical problem solver comfortable working in an island environment.

Role Overview: Deliver pristine room cleanliness, guest comfort, and polished presentation across the resort's guest rooms and public facilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform daily cleaning, sanitizing, bed-making, and room turnover according to resort standards.
  • Restock room amenities, bath linens, drinking water, and minibar items.
  • Operate laundry equipment, wash and fold linens and towels, and track guest laundry services.
  • Identify and report maintenance issues, damaged room fixtures, or missing items promptly to supervisors.

Requirements

  • Previous housekeeping or room attendant experience in a hotel, resort, or serviced apartment.
  • High attention to detail, trustworthy, and physically fit.
  • Strong dedication to guest satisfaction and team collaboration.

Francisco B. Reyes Airport (USU) is served by daily flights from Manila, Cebu and Clark (about 1 hour from Manila). The resort is roughly 17 km / 30 minutes by road from the airport.

We offer a complimentary shuttle between 6 AM and 5 PM. Please send your flight details at least 72 hours before arrival so we can meet you at the terminal.

Around town

Tricycles & Scooters

Coron town centre is about 2 km away — a 5–10 minute tricycle ride at ₱25 per person. Reception can also arrange scooter rental (around ₱500/day).

When exactly do you re-open?

We're aiming to welcome guests back in early 2027. Waitlist members will be the first to receive our confirmed opening date, rates and booking link.

Is there a beach at the resort?

No — Coron's beaches are reached by boat. The resort sits in a quiet garden setting near town; our tour desk arranges daily island-hopping and beach trips.

Is breakfast included?

Our a-la carte breakfast (6–9 AM) is available for ₱550 per adult and ₱275 per child, or can be bundled into your rate. Early breakfast-to-go packs are available for dawn tours.

Do you have Wi-Fi in rooms?

Yes. Upgraded Wi-Fi coverage across the whole property — including all rooms — is part of the re-opening refresh.
